On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, around 5:30pm, the West Shore Regional Police Department was dispatched, along with emergency medical personnel, to the area of N 12th Street and Indiana Avenue, Lemoyne. The call was for a cardiac arrest caused by a heroin overdose.
An officer arrived on the scene, along with EMS. There was a male unconscious inside a vehicle stopped in the area. The male was identified as 22-year-old Kory Alan SMART, from the 1st block of Laurel Circle, East Pennsboro Township. West Shore EMS was able to bring SMART around and he was transported to Holy Spirit Hospital for treatment. While there, SMART submitted to a blood test.
An officer spoke with SMART who admitted to overdosing on Heroin, as well as smoking marijuana. Drug paraphernalia was also found in SMART’s vehicle. Once SMART was released from the hospital, he was transported to the Cumberland County Prison, where he was processed and charged with Driving Under the Influence and Possession of Paraphernalia. Once the blood test results are received, the charges will be filed with MDJ Beckley’s office.
